I took video of some old fast trucks drag racing at Wisconsin International Raceway on August 4th 2017.
In this video you can see the all time favorite 1977 Ford F150 Farm Truck version whooping up on a Mustang going down the quarter mile. I’m not sure of the exact time on this run but I know the truck runs in the 11 second range. The Ford Truck was caught snoozing at the light but it is awesome to see it catch the Mustang and then pull on him pretty good at the end of the track.
The next truck is a 1975 Chevy K10 4wd that is full weight with a 5.3 liter turbo LS junkyard motor in it. It had a 6.0 LS in it before but that engine got destroyed and needed to get quickly swapped out with what every was laying around. The 5.3 stepped up and is hauling that 5,000 lb beast down the track pretty good. You can see in the video that the driver launched the truck perfect but the tires could not handle the amount of boost it was leaving off on and spun a bit off the line. So as they say, it has more left in it than the mid 12 second pass that it did.
The last truck is a 1983 C10, I don’t know much more about it than it is a fresh new build which is missing a front grill, but is pretty darn fast.
On this episode of Head 2 Head presented by Tire Rack, Jason Cammisa and Jonny Lieberman explore the burgeoning segment of mid-grade performance machines. Way back in Episode 67, the then-brand-new Jaguar XE beat the once-dominant BMW 335i to capture the crown. In terms of pure driving joy, Jag had Bimmer’s number. But there’s a new AMG in town, and the boys can’t even agree on whether or not it’s a “real” one. On the one hand, 12 months ago, the essentially unchanged C43 was sold as a non-AMG C450 4Matic. On the other, in terms of acceleration, the C43 barrels down a dragstrip like a real AMG. Acceleration notwithstanding, is the C43 good enough to stick it to the subtle, lithe, lively Jaguar? There’s only one way to find out!
This is the one you’re been waiting for. What happens when you race the new 2018 Audi RS5 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo against the new BMW M4 C 3.0-litre twin turbo and a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 Mercedes-AMG C63S over a standing 1/4 mile drag race. Well watch the video to find out. Obviously the Audi as qauttro all-wheel drive so has an advantage off the line. But will it be enough to keep it ahead. Also what happens in a rolling race from 50mph? In this video all these equations will be answered. Also we have a guest driver with us – Paul Wallace from Supercars of London.
BTW don’t worry – a full review of the RS5 is coming soon.
