#winter #offgrid #cabin
Winter has hit Canada early, with frigid temperatures far below normal, snow that won’t melt and lakes that are already completely ice covered, much earlier than normal – we’re in for another extreme winter at my log cabin in the wilderness. My Skidoo is helps me gather enough firewood for the bathhouse and the log cabin, which is going to be helpful in the coming months as I prepare the cabin for two full time occupants. Speaking of that, I start working on the small shed addition on the back of the cabin which will house a storage area and a composting toilet so that my wife doesn’t have to go outside to use the outhouse in the middle of the night all winter.
My off grid outdoor meat locker is working fine with the cold weather, so I take out 2 lbs of ground bear to make bear soup with sourdough bread. Cali, my Golden Retriever, loves this weather and now that she’s ready for cold weather, she finds the cabin too hot and spends most of her indoor time sleeping against the front door of the cabin on the cool stones.
